Hey boys, hey girls,
Have you been to one of the museums in Liverpool?
No? Well, they are not as boring as you might think! Not at all! They’re much
better than the dusty, old-fashioned museums you used to visit in Germany when
you were a child, with all the display windows and lots of texts to read.
Well, you can visit the National Museums in Liverpool
for free and the best thing about
them is that they’re EXCITING! You
should visit the International Slavery
Museum – and the Merseyside Maritime
Museum as well. Both museums are in the same
building which is probably about 5-6 floors high. Of course there still are
display windows and texts you can read BUT
there are video installations and computers and all that interactive stuff
which makes the exhibitions so fascinating. Well, it’s a bit hard to access the
exhibition, meaning you don’t know where to start when you enter, but actually
that’s fun! Wander around and return to anything you want to. There’s no
station which builds on anything you should have learned at an earlier one
before.
The International Slavery Museum
is the only one of its kind so far. And Liverpool
was deeply involved in the slave trade... The museum is at the historic,
beautifully restored Albert Docks,
where you can see The Beatles Story
and take a ride on the Duckmarine!
Best wishes,
Jan
